Is it Javea… or is it Xabia?

Confusing I know… so let’s start here.
Javea and Xabia, are actually the one and the same. The first is in Spanish, and the second in Valencian. This means, sometimes you’ll see Javea and other times, Xabia. What I tend to notice is that Javea refers to the Arenal, end of town. While Xabia is mentioned in connection with the Port and the Historical Centre.
But this certainly isn’t a hard and fast rule, and for consistency I’ll be using Javea below.
Where to Book Accommodation in Javea

🤯 When you open Booking.com to begin a search of hotels in Javea, Spain – it’s like opening up a can of worms. Did you know there are all together, a total of more than 500 accommodation options.
Then as you start to dig further, you’ll discover that there isn’t one potential area to stay in Javea… BUT 3! That means, to get a better understanding on where to stay in Javea, you need to know what is where. And that’s where I come in. Read below for a quick overview of what you’ll find in the different areas of Javea, this will help you narrow in on the hotel locations you’re looking for.
The Arenal Javea

The Arenal is the main beach and tourist hub for many coming to holiday in Javea. This is Javea’s only sandy beach which makes it a popular destination among families. There is a pedestrian promenade that follows the beach, with many cafes and restaurants to choose from.
You’ll discover that the Arenal has that ultimate beach town feel. During the day, people flock to the beach to sunbathe and swim, and later in the day the restaurants fill with holidaymakers out for a meal.
In terms of accommodation, there are many convenient apartments nearby, which means you’ll be walking distance to the beach. Nearby there are some great supermarkets if you want to self-cater. But there are also some super hotel options in the area.
To the south of the Arenal, are the beautiful beaches of Portixol and Granadella. They are too far to walk, but driving takes about 15 minutes depending on traffic.
The Javea Port

About a 10 minute drive north of the Arenal is the Port. This area is popular among holiday makers who want a more typical experience of Spain, from their stay in Javea. BUT… at the same time want beach and sunbathing time. Playa de la Grava is a pretty little stretch of pebbled beach, popular among the locals.
The Javea Port is a very picturesque part of Spain, with some great options in terms of hotels and accommodation choices. On your doorstep you have several walks into the Montgo Natural Park, for example to the windmills, known as Los Molinos. The San Antonio Marine Reserve is also walking distance and super for snorkelling and kayaking. Also in the port you can visit the fish markets and the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Loreto church.
Once again, there are some super apartments to choose from, as well as boutique hotels. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and places to find authentic tapas.
The Javea Historic Centre

If you aren’t fussed about having the beach at hand, then you may prefer to stay in the Javea Historic Centre. Still relatively close to the port, you could make the 25 minute walk, or 6 minute drive. While to the Arenal it is a 10-15 minute drive, depending on the traffic.
I love the Historic Centre for culture and atmosphere. The narrow pedestrian streets through the old town are very pretty indeed. This is a great part of Javea to stay in, if you’re a food lover… because the restaurants in the old town are outstanding. The Javea Historic Centre is well known for it’s gastronomy.
Within the old town, you can visit the museum, the Municipal Food Market and a number of small boutique shops. The short walk up to the Santa Lucia Church is also worth checking out.
Hotels in Javea, Spain
So now that you have an idea about the three areas of Javea aka Xabia, below I will share hotels and accommodation options in each area. I have tried to choose hotels and holiday homes that are sustainable properties and come with excellent reviews.
I have spent a great deal of time finding properties that are in the best locations. And all that I share here, are the types of hotels and accommodation choices we would book for our stay in Javea, Spain. You can trust that I have selected carefully and considered many properties in order to create this selection.
Accommodation Options at the Arenal
First things first, let’s look at the best hotels and apartments available near the Javea Arenal. Below I share 6 options, because it’s a popular part of Javea to book in. Make note of our list of symbols, as these will help you figure out at a glance, if the option is suited to your needs.

🛋 4 Star Hotel
✨ Adult only property
🌱 Sustainable Rating = +
💦 Indoor and outdoor pool
📍 30 minute walk from Arenal Beach
🚗 Free Parking
Okay so while the Ritual de Terra isn’t right on the beach, it’s still our hotel of choice. If you decide to head to the beach by car it takes less than 5 minutes. Alternatively, if you want a hotel on the Arenal, then the Parador is your best option.
There is a restaurant and spa onsite. Oh and did I mention the pool… I mean, you hardly have to leave the property! The garden is lovely and the staff receive high praise from their guests.
If you have mobility challenges, this hotel has stairs to some of the rooms. Therefore we recommend you mention this, when making your booking.

💰 €180 – €260 per night
🛋 Apartment
🛏 2 Bedrooms + Sofa Bed / Sleeps up to 6

I absolutely love the location of K-Navy Apartment in the Arenal. It’s in the heart of the action, so everything in the Arenal is walking distance.
You’ll have cafes, restaurants and beach on your doorstep. Or the self-catering options means you can cook in and save.
The view from the terrace over the canal is really cool, and the design of the interior is comfortable, warm and put together by someone with great taste!
Brand New Apartment – 50m From Arenal

📍 Walking distance to the Arenal – 50m

Location, location, location is the key to this apartment! Just across the road you have restaurants and the beach, and despite it’s fabulous location it’s great value for money.
The apartment is recently renovated, and the style is simple, clean and functional. It’s small, compact and provides the basics for self-catering. I feel this apartment would suit a family with young children or holiday makers looking for something on a budget.
Apartamento Belice

🍽 Self Catering
💰 €138 per night

Once again, the beach is right across the road. So you can enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace and soak in that sea view!
This doesn’t feel like the kind of place you’d want to book if you’re travelling with the kids. Instead a family with teenagers, or a group of friends who have planned a holiday together.
The design style is white on white, crisp and sophisticated.
K-Terra Apartment

🍽 Self Catering

🛋 Apartment
🛏 2 Bedrooms + Sofa Bed / Sleeps up to 5
🌱 Sustainable Rating = ++
📍 Walking distance to the Arenal – 200m
🚗 Free Parking
This is hotel quality, in an apartment. Warm, organic design and the best part is the terrace, which is essentially an extension of the lounge. It’s easy to picture breakfast and a good coffee on the terrace.
K-Terra is a little further from the Arenal, so you’re still close just without the crowds which the beachfront attracts.
Bonita Stay B Rocks Nuevo

🍽 Self Catering
💰 €84 – €270 per night
🛋 Apartment
🛏 1 Bedroom + Sofa Bed / Sleeps up to 3
💦 Pool
🌱 Sustainable Rating = +++
📍 Walking distance to the Arenal – 200m
🚗 Free Parking
The last apartment for our list in the Arenal, and this apartment ticks the sustainability stay option. And unlike the other apartments we have listed above, this one includes a pool.
As you can see from the photo, the accommodation is bright and minimalist in style. The apartment and kitchen is compact. Therefore it’s suited to a couple who plan on enjoying a glass of wine on the balcony, but who prefer making the most of the cuisine on offer at the Arenal.
Accommodation Options at the Port
The Nomad Hotel

🛋 4 Star Boutique Hotel

📍 Beachfront on Playa del Grava

This one features on MOST lists of recommended hotels in Javea, Spain. And for good reason, it’s beautiful and is situated right on the waterfront.
The owners who used to live as expats in Dubai, relocated to Javea Port and opened the Nomad Hotel. We also used to live in Dubai and have experienced firsthand, the quality of hotels in the United Arab Emirates. Clearly having taken inspiration from their life abroad Monica and Dieter, the founders of Nomad Hotel, have created a boutique space, fit for the very finest of nomads.
It’s rustic yet refined, bohemian yet contemporary. It’s just a little piece of perfection wrapped up in a bow and ready for the most luxurious of getaways. The Nomad Hotel is the kind of destination you book for a treat, a romantic weekend, an anniversary or a birthday surprise.
Hotel Javea

🍽 Breakfast Optional / Restaurant onsite
💰 €60 – €85 per night
🛋 2 Star Hotel
🛏 Twin & Double Rooms
🌱 Sustainable Rating = +
📍 Walking distance to Playa del Grava
🚗 Paid parking nearby
For a hotel that is friendlier on the budget, but in the same location, look no further than Hotel Javea. The rooms are rather small, but this is reflected in the appealing price. As such this option is a great choice for short stays.
In general Hotel Javea’s reviews are positive, and I can certainly vouch for the location and the views after visiting the Attico restaurant above the hotel. If you book a sea facing room, then you’ll enjoy these views as well.

This apartment ticks the box on budget, it sleeps up to 8 people, you’ve got ocean views and it’s spacious with a big kitchen. What’s not to love.
Rated an exceptional 9.5 on Booking.com this apartment has received excellent reviews from previous guests. However the bathrooms are noted as being somewhat dated.
This aside, it’s in a terrific location, right above the Port’s fabulous restaurants. It’s often booked out, so be sure to book ahead.
Apartment Puerto Javea

These guys are new to the rental apartment game in Javea. But this place is begging to be rented, and it’s super spacious to boot.
If you’re travelling as a large group, I’m thinking two families, then this apartment is perfect. It provides the space, as well as an excellent location for getting in amongst it. And the Ikea furniture is well suited to a family space, so parents won’t get nervous when the kids become kids.
The large wrap around balcony is great, a place for guests to enjoy the morning sun and sea.
Accommodation Options in the Historic Centre
Hotel Triskel

💰 €105 – €170 per night
🛋 2 Star Hotel
🛏 Double Rooms + cot

📍 Near St Bartholomew Church
🚗 Paid parking nearby
Best described as kind of retro, this place could feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Or stepped into your Granny’s house. That said, it’s in a fabulous location in the heart of the old town, and it’s loved by guests.
You are welcomed with a cold glass of cava, which in my books is a sure fire way to win me over. Note that if you stay on the weekend, the bar gets busy and the live music gathers a crowd.
Casa Valentina

🍽 Shared Kitchen
💰 €60 – €100 per night
🛋 Apartment
🛏 1 Bedroom / Sleeps up to 4
🌱 Sustainable Rating = +
📍 Walking Distance to Bus Stop and Historic Centre
🚗 Paid parking nearby
This is kind of perfect for digital nomads or young couples travelling on a budget. Casa Valentina offers 5 rooms, all slightly different, and with the shared kitchen you can self-cater.
The rooms are recently renovated, and if you take one of the rooms with a view you’ll see the ocean in the distance. It’s cute, it’s cozy, and has been styled with a sort of charming, classic feel.
Casa Valentina, is super convenient in terms of location, you can take a bus to the nearby Arenal for a small fare. Or stretch the legs and walk 25 minutes to the port.
Possibly what stands out the most about Casa Valentina, is the attention given by Nico the host. As a result, this property has a large number of reviews, all of whom rate their experience very high.
Tu Casa en Javea

🍽 Self Catering
💰 €148 – €300 per night
🛋 Apartment
🛏 2 Bedrooms / Sleeps up to 4
🌱 Sustainable Rating = ++
📍 5 minutes walk to the old town

This minimalist apartment just beyond Javea’s Historic Centre is great for a family of four, especially if you’re travelling with a car. This is one of the rare properties in the old town with a free car parking space.
You’ll love the Nespresso machine and the well equiped kitchen. Also, the friendly hosts Roberto and Silvia are highly regarded by their guests.
The other benefit about this property, is that it’s on the side of the Historic Centre, which is closer to the port. Just 20 minutes walk to the east and you can be lying on the beach.
Holiday Home Villas
I realise that many people that come to holiday in Javea, Spain – aren’t looking for hotels or apartments. Instead they want that perfect villa, with pool and ample outdoor space to relax and rewind. I know this, because this is the kind of stay I long for when I visit Javea.
As such this accommodation guide to Javea wouldn’t be complete without some legendary villas for your to browse through. Well below, we have a few places… just what the doctor ordered.
Villa Tosalet Pomelo

🍽 Self Catering
💰 €161 – €265 per night
🛋 Villa
💦 Pool
🛏 3 Bedrooms + 2 Sofa Beds/ Sleeps up to 8
🌱 Sustainable Rating = +
📍 5 minutes drive to the Arenal
🚗 Free Parking
I love this villa, as it’s super close to where our friends live. Perched high on the hill the drive up and down to this part of Javea is pretty spectacular. So yes you will need a car, but it’s worth it. And given the size of this villa and the number of people it accommodates, the price is very fair.
Just 12 minutes drive and you’re at Granadella beach, one of the prettiest bays in the region! Or 12 minutes in the other direction and you’ll arrive at Portixol beach.
With pool and lounging chairs, outdoor BBQ, there really is no need to go inside, or outside the property, for that matter. Pick yourself up some tapas and wines, from the local Consum supermarket and you’re set for a dream Spanish summer hideaway.
There is a €300 security deposit, and parties are not allowed. This aside, for a couple of families looking for a fun summer vacay, then this is your place.
Note: The property recently changed ownership. Christiane is the new owner, and the best part is that the Villa used to be belong to her family. Therefore you know she’s in it with full heart and soul.
Casa Josephine

🍽 Self Catering
💰 €190 – €300 per night
🛋 Villa
💦 Pool
🛏 4 Bedrooms / Sleeps up to 7
🌱 Sustainable Rating = +
📍 600m to Portixol Beach
🚗 Free Parking
Casa Josephine is large and spacious and perfect for a large family or two smaller families. But the best part is the proximity to Portixol Beach, which is one of my personal favourites in Javea. Read my post on the best beaches in Javea, to get a better understanding about this gem of a bay.
This property belongs to two brothers, Jip and Gijs, who grew up holidaying here, so it has been a family holiday home for many years.
The villa is comfortable and cosy all year round, with options for heating in winter and cooling in summer. You’ll find plenty of space to relax, read a book and unwind.
Note: That while Casa Josephine is close to Portixol Beach, it’s also located on a very steep hill and traffic and parking can be a challenge down to the beach during July and August. Just something to keep in mind.
La Renda Mediterranean Villa

🍽 Self Catering
💰 €235 – €585 per night
🛋 Villa
💦 Pool
🛏 4 Bedrooms / Sleeps up to 8
🌱 Sustainable Rating = ++
📍 10 minutes walk to the Historic Centre & the Port
🚗 Free Parking
In a different part of Javea all together is La Renda Villa. It’s quiet, peaceful but conveniently located. Positioned right in the middle, between the Xabia Port and the Historic Centre, you find yourself in a more laid back part of town.
La Renda Mediterranean Villa has been newly renovated and is described by previous guests as being very comfortable indeed. The host Marcos is extremely accommodating, and as a result his property is rated very highly on Booking.com.
As with the previous villas above, you’ll have access to a BBQ area and outdoor entertaining space. While the table on the terrace is the perfect place for the lunch or evening meal.
Where to Stay Beyond Javea & My Top Pick!
We love Javea, but we also love some of the areas around Javea, Guadalest Castle and Calpe to name just a couple. The countryside and coastline is magical and there is so much to see and do. Such that, I know we will definitely be back to explore further.
One area that I highly recommend which is not so far from Javea, is Calpe. It’s the perfect day trip destination from Javea, with equally lovely places to stay.
Villa Riu Blanc Boutique Hotel

☕️ Breakfast included
💰 €145 – €165 per night
🛋 Boutique Hotel
✨ Adult only property
🌱 Sustainable Rating = +
💦 Pool
📍 30 minutes from Javea, near Calpe
🚗 Free Parking
This one earns a special place here on my list, because I stayed here with my bestie on a mum-cation. And it was one of those places that energises and resets. Read my full review of Villa Riu Blanc here.
The breakfast was delicious, and the pool totally dreamy. I honestly felt as though I was experiencing the real Spain as I lay beside the pool with a glass of wine in my hand. And with Calpe just down the road, you won’t be short of fine cuisine and beautiful sights. See my guide to one day in Calpe for more.
For some reason, they are not highlighted on Booking.com as a sustainable property. Though having stayed there I can tell you, Villa Riu Blanc use solar to heat the water. I also loved how they support local with the toiletries, and the delicious local wines available in their honesty bar.
Above all all, the villa is stunning and the hosts Dirk and Patricia are those kind of people that leave an impression. They are incredibly helpful and kind. And when I return to Javea, I will certainly return to Villa Riu Blanc to stay, and to say hi.
